Volunteer: Adult Mentor for Teen Program - Lorain CountyServe as a mentor to help Lorain County teens build positive behaviors, improve school performance, and strengthen family relationships. With a focus on developing pro-social skills, the program includes mentoring, group sessions, community connections, and skill-building opportunities. After completing training, mentors will be assigned to one mentee, who they will support in achieving the goals they have set for their mentoring time. Mentors will work with our Program Coordinator and the mentee's family to set a regular schedule for mentoring. During mentoring time, the mentor and mentee will plan and engage in various activities in and around the community. This volunteer opportunity allows for flexible scheduling, but does require annual training, relationship building, and reliable transportation. Funding is available for mentoring activities. Time Commitment We ask volunteers to spend a minimum of 2 hours biweekly with their mentee. These activities are to be scheduled after school or on the weekend. Below are examples of ways to help. Each quarter, there is a focus related to projects that support our service to the community. The projects work to address needs of our community, including the collection of: Household cleaning supplies and hygiene products: These supplies are critical for our community members who may not have funding to purchase these needed items. We also create "welcome home" baskets for clients as they move into their new homes. This is ongoing. Food Insecurity: Gas cards and grocery certificates, along with a non-perishable meal in a bag are great collections that our community seeks, needs and we never have enough of! This is ongoing. Bookbags (whether new or used) & school supplies: The bookbags are provided to those who are transient or unhoused to be able to secure their belongings. New bookbags and supplies are given to community members at the beginning of the school year. This would begin in May each year. Holiday Gifts: These items include books, socks, toys, gift cards etc and are a great project for groups to take on. This process would begin in October each year.Coats/Boots/Socks (new preferred, but used coats and boots are fine) We collect all sizes for winter gear to distribute to our clients. Larger sizes, along with toddler-school age sizes of are greatest need. This collection begins in September. During this time, our teens are actively participating in programming that supports their growth as individuals with career exposure, community connections, volunteering, and group therapy. As a group, they eat dinner together. Dinner should be delivered by 3:30pm. Volunteers are welcome to stay and help lead a career exposure activity related to their own career.
